O DEAR MOTHER MY TOES ARE SORE [4]. Barndance (4/4 time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The title is likely a mistake and properly belongs to a 6/8 time march or jig collected in southwestern Pennsylvania, for which see "O Dear Mother My Toes are Sore (1)," "O Dear Mother My Toes are Sore (2)," "O Dear Mother My Toes are Sore (3)." The tune usually goes by the names "Nightingale (2) (The)," "Peacock Rag," "Mason-Dixon Schottische (The)," "Rustic Dance" and others. Stacy Phillips listed "O Dear Mother My Toes are Sore" as an alternate title for his transcription of Tony Gilmore's "Evening Pleasures Schottische" in his 1994 Traditional American Fiddle Tunes, vol. 1.
