OLD BALD EAGLE. Old-Time, Air and Breakdown. A Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB. Composed by Homer Dillard, scion of the group The Dillard Family. There are other, unrelated "Old Bald Eagle" pieces; one was collected by Cecil Sharp in 1917 (English Folk Songs from the Southern Appalachians, vol. II, p. 374), and a play-party song from the repertoire of Kentucky folksinger Jean Ritchie. Drew Beisswenger (2008) notes similarities in the 'A' part with "Sourwood Mountain," and in the 'B' part with Ike Helton's "Grey Eagle."

Source for notated version: Homer E. Dillard, Sr. (c. 1913-c. 1993, Salem, Missouri) [Beisswenger & McCann].

Printed sources: Beisswenger & McCann (Ozarks Fiddle Music), 2008; p. 181.
