OLD CAMBRIDGE HORNPIPE. AKA - "Old Cambridge Reel." AKA and see "Cambridge Hornpipe (The)," "Old Timer Reel (2)," "Pacific Slope (1)." American, Hornpipe or Reel (2/4 or cut time). A Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The tune was composed by American blackface minstrel composer and performer George H. Coes as "Old Cambridge Reel", and printed in his Coes Album of Jigs and Reels (1876). It later appeared in Laybourn's volume as "Old Cambridge Hornpipe." The title perhaps refers to Cambridge, Boston, although it is curious that Boston music publisher Elias Howe used instead the name "Old Timer Reel (2)" for the tune in his Musicians Omnibus Nos. 6 & 7 (1880-1882).
