OLD HEN (SHE) CACKLED [2]. American, Reel (cut time). A Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). ABC. This version of the "Hen Cackled" tune family was played by fiddler W.H. "Bill" Stepp, recorded by Alan and Elizabeth Lomax in October, 1937, in Salyersville, Kentucky. Stepp was accompanied for this tune on guitar by Mae Puckett Porter, whose blind sister Nell performed ballads and sacred material for the Lomaxes.
