OLD SILVER SPEAR, THE. AKA and see "Anderson's Reel (2)," "Five Mile Chase (2)," "Hunter Billy's," "Miss Lane's Fancy," "My Love is on the Ocean (1)," "New Mown Meadows (The)," "Silver Spear (The)," "Silver Tip (1) (The)," "Sliabh Bána," "Threepenny Bit (The)," "Top of the Cliff (The)." Irish, Reel. A Dorian. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB. The tune shares only the same second part as "Silver Spear (The)," but there is a considerable overlapping of cognate tunes between 'A' modal and 'D' major branches of the large tune family, often with only one strain shared. "Hunter Billy's (Reel)", from biography:Rev. Luke Donnellan's c. 1909 music manuscript collection is a distanced, but cognate version in both strains of "Old Silver Spear." See also the related "Five Mile Chase (2)" from Donegal fiddler John Doherty.
