OLD STANLEY REEL. American, Reel (2/4 time). A Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABBCCDD. The tune was composed by blackface minstrel musician George H. Coes. The title may in some way be associated with the character of Old Stanley in English playwright John Poole's (1786-1872) immensely popular comic play Paul Pry, which premiered at the Haymarket Theatre, London, on 13th Sept., 1825. Alternatively, it could be the name of a theater or other venue for minstrel performances.
