OLD STANLEY REEL. American, Reel (2/4 time). A Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABBCCDD. The tune was composed by blackface minstrel musician biography:George H. Coes. The title may in some way be associated with the character of Old Stanley in English playwright John Poole's (1786-1872) immensely popular comic play Paul Pry, which premiered at the Haymarket Theatre, London, on 13th Sept., 1825. Alternatively, it could be the name of a theater or other venue for minstrel performances.
