OLD TIME WEDDING REEL . AKA and see "Hamish the Carpenter," "Och a chaillain." Canadian, Reel. Canada; Cape Breton, Prince Edward Island. A Dorian. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB (Dunlay & Reich, Perlman): AABB (Shears): AABBAAB'B' (Dunlay & Greenberg). A frequently played reel by Cape Breton musicians, often in a medley with the other "Old Time Wedding" reels, in imitation of the influential recording by Dan J. Campbell and Angus Allan Gillis. Dunlay & Greenberg (1996) point out this is a good reel for two fiddles to double on, since the 'B' part can be played high and low in first position. MacMaster's version illustrates this in four parts, with one low 'B' part and one high (part 'D'). The reel was set for pipes by Barry Shears in his Gathering of the Clans Collection (1986).
