PEGGY MORTON. Irish, Air or Planxty (2/4 time). C Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB. Composed by blind Irish harper Turlough O'Carolan (1670-1738). Donal O'Sullivan (1958) believed the subject of the air to have been a member of a family by the name of Morton with estates in the barony of Ballintobber, County Roscommon.

Source for notated version: the music manuscript collection of Belfast collector Edward Bunting [1] (1773-1843) [O'Sullivan]. The tune was in two places in the manuscripts, at least one of them collected from the playing of harper Hugh O'Beirne.

Printed sources: Complete Collection of Carolan's Irish Tunes, 1984; No. 104, pp. 78-79. O'Sullivan (The Life, Times and Music of an Irish Harper), 1958; pp. 156-157.
