PETER GRAY [2]. AKA and see "Bonaparte Crossing the Rhine (2)," "Bonaparte's Retreat (5)," "Napoleon Crossing the Alps (1)." American, Reel. USA, southwestern Pa. A Minor. Standard tuning (fiddle). AA'BB. Bayard (1981) identifies this tune, usually called "Bonaparte's Retreat" by fiddlers in Bayard's collection area of southwestern Pennsylvania, as a member of the common "Lazarus" tune family. The title appears to have been idiosyncratic with fiddler Finnefrock. The tune has no relation to Skinner's "Peter Gray (1)").

Source for notated version: Charles Finnefrock (elderly fiddler from Clarion County, Pa., 1954; who called it "a fife set") [Bayard].
