PICK 'EM UP JOE. Old-Time, Breakdown. C Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). Learned by Arizona fiddler Kenner C. Kartchner from bartender Jim Wheeler, Williams, Arizona, 1903 (Shumway, Frontier Fiddler, 1990). There was a (chain) gang-song or chant used the phrase "Pick 'em up Joe," but there may be no connection with Wheeler's tune.
