PICKING OFF PEANUTS. Old-Time, Breakdown. USA, North Georgia. 'Picking off peanuts' was at one time an annual harvest-time (Sept.) event, when the ground would be plowed with a steel beam plow, after which the upturned peanuts would be plucked and the wet peanuts brought to a drying shed. The tune "Picking off Peanuts" was recorded for Vocalion Records in March, 1930, by the North Georgia group 7-Foot Dilly and His Dill Pickles, led by guitar player an singer John Dilleshaw.
