PICTOU ISLAND REEL. Canadian, Reel. D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. Composed by Prince Edward Island fiddler Cecil McEachern (1926-2014), the last surviving member of the Don Messer band popular in the mid-20th century on radio and TV. McEachern composed numerous tunes recorded by Messer and the band and popularized through their recordings. Pictou Island [1] is a small inhabited island situated in the Northumberland strait, between Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island.
