PIED DU MOUTON, LE (The Mutton Foot). French-Canadian, Reel. Canada, Québec. A Major. ADad or AEac# tuning (fiddle). The tune is sourced to Oscar "Joe" Robichaud of New Brunswick, recorded in the field in 1975 by Frank Ferrell and Mark Wilson (it is sometimes miss-attributed to Larry Riendeau of Berlin, N.H.). Pied du Mouton is the name of a type of mushroom, but was also the name of a popular and famous play, written and produced in 1806 by Alphonse Martainville along with actor César Ribié, which had to do with fairies and the fantastical[1]. It was much imitated through the 19th century.
The tune shifts tonality between major and modal. The tuning is described as AEac# on "Art of the Fiddle", but Devon Leger believes it is in ADad.
