PLANXTY O'CAROLAN (Pleraca Ua Cearballain). Irish, Air or Planxty (6/8 time). G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB. Francis O'Neill thought the tune to have been composed by blind Irish harper Turlough O'Carolan (1670-1738) and included it in his section of the bard's music. However, Donal O'Sullivan (The Life, Times and Music of an Irish Harper, 1958) found a great many miss-titles and untraceable tunes in the section, and could find not evidence to corroborate O'Neill's assertion. In fact, this particular tune was untraceable. O'Sullivan included it in his definitive collection as an untitled tune because the style resembles Carolan's and it could have been composed by him.
