Back to Polygon (The)
POLYGON, THE. English, Jig. D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. A 'Polygon' is a plane figure that is bounded by a finite chain of straight line segments closing in a loop to form a closed chain or circuit. Thus there are many different polygon shapes, but the country dance title perhaps refers to fortress architecture. For example, a 'Polygon of Fortification' refers to a plane geometric form on which fronts of fortification were traced. It may also refer to a movement or figure in a dance.
