POOL REEL, THE. Scottish, Reel (whole time). E Dorian. Standard tuning (fiddle). AAB. A 19th century reel composed by Robert Lowe, elder brother of Joseph Lowe (1797-1866) who issued a six-part collection of Scottish music in 1844. According to Black's History of Brechin, Robert was "a teacher of dancing, an accomplished musician, author of many musical pieces, and an amateur painter of no mean powers, born in 1791" (p. 288).
