PORTLAND FAIR. AKA and see “Trip to the Heart.” American, March (2/4 time). G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The melody appears in David Hazeltine’s Instructor in Martial Music (Exeter, N.H., c. 1810) and Alvan Robinson’s Massachusetts Collection of Martial Musick (Hallowell, Maine, 1818, republished in editions of 1820 and 1824). The tune does not appear in the 1817 edition of Hazelitne's Instructor. The title probably refers to Portland, Maine.
