PORTROWE [2], THE. Irish, Jig. D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. Bronx fiddler Martin Mulvihill (1919-1987) got his "Port-" and "Carra-" confused, for what he entered in his 1st Collection (1986) as "The Portrowe" is really the "Carraroe Jig (The)," recorded in 1931 by the old Ballinakill Ceili Band. By whatever name, it is a relative of a larger family of Scottish and Irish tunes that includes Blue Bonnets Jig,” “Scotsman Over the Border,” “Mist on the Meadow (3),” “Mist in the Glen,” "Lark in the Morning" and others.
