PRATTLING POLL. English, Reel or Hornpipe. G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. Seattle (1987) says the tune is "probably" a hornpipe. The melody was first published in London in 1759 in John Hinton's periodical The Universal Magazine of Knowledge and Pleasure (p. 375) where it is described as "a new country dance." It also appears in the 1770 music manuscript collection of Northumbrian musician William Vickers, about whom very little is known, and the music manuscript collection of Austin Dobson ("His book, 1749-1775", now kept by Harvard University's Houghton Library).

Source for notated version: William Vickers' 1770 music manuscript collection (Northumberland) [Seattle].

Printed sources: Seattle (Great Northern/William Vickers), 1987, Part 3; No. 473.
