PREACHER GOT DRUNK AND LAID HIS BIBLE DOWN. AKA - "Preacher Got Drunk and Throwed His Bible Down." Old-Time, Song and Breakdown. "Preacher got Drunk and Laid his Bible Down" is a member of a widely disseminated folk song family in the Rural South and Mid-West, with a number of variants from both black and white musicians. The song/tune was in the repertoire of the Tennessee Ramblers [1], an Anderson County, east Tennessee, family band composed of William "Wild Bill" Sievers (1875-1954) on fiddler, his son James "Mac(k)" Sievers (banjo, vocal), daughter Willie Sievers (1909-1998) on guitar, and cousin Willim McKinney on steel guitar.
