PRINCE FERDINAND. English, Country Dance Tune (2/4 time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The melody is unique to Charles and Samuel Thompson’s third country dance collection (London, 1773). The title refers to Charles William Ferdinand [1] (1735-1806), Duke of Brunswick, a prince of the Holy Roman Empire. As commander of the Prussian forces, he was one of foremost military men of his era. He was married to Princess Augusta, sister of King George III of Great Britain.
