PRINCE FREDRICK'S MARCH. English, March (whole time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. Frederick Augustus [1] (1763–1827), Duke of York and Albany, was the second son and child of King George III. In May, 1789, he fought a duel with Colonel Charles Lennox, Duke of Richmond, who had insulted him; Lennox missed, and Prince Frederick refused to return fire. Undoubtedly cognizent of this, "Prince Fredrick's March" is printed on the same page as "Duke of Richmond's March" in Glasgow musician James Aird's last collection of c. 1803.
