QUICK MARCH OF THE DOWNSHIRE MILITIA. Irish(?), March (2/4 time). The title perhaps refers tto he Royal Downshire Militia, one of many militia units raised in Ireland and Great Britain 1793 to deal with the threat of the French Revolutionary War spreading to the countries, and concerns of invasion. The militia operated as part-time units and were in theory a part of the regular army, but they also helped to free regular army units for services overseas. Arthur Hill's Royal Downshire was the largest of the Ulster militia.
