QUICK STEP 2nd BATTALION ROYALS. AKA and see "Miller's Wedding (3)," "My Lad's Over Bonny for the Coal Trade." Scottish, March (2/4 time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The Royal Scots regiment is the oldest line regiment in the British army, first raised in 1633. In the eighteenth century the second battalion of the regiment saw service at the Battle of Falkirk and the Battle of Culloden during the Jacobite rebellion of Bonnie Prince Charlie, and from the 1770's to the end of the century garrisoned Minorca in the Mediterranean, and took part in battles in Corsica and Egypt in the wars with France.

With the part reversed, the tune (set as a reel) can be found in the 1770 music manuscript collection of Northumbrian musician William Vickers, under the title "My Lad's Over Bonny for the Coal Trade."
