RAFFERTY'S REEL.  AKA and see "Blackthorn Stick (4) (The)," "Jolly Clam-diggers (1) (The)," "Old Blackthorn (The)," "Rising Sun (2) (The)," "Rising of the Sun (1) (The),"  "Strone Johnny (1)."  Irish, Reel (cut time). The reel was recorded under the "Rafferty's Reel" title by Frank Quinn (1893-1964), a prolific recording artist in the 78 RPM era on fiddle and melodeon.  He was from Greagh, Drumlish, County Longford, before emigrating to New York City at the age of ten with his family. He joined the NYC police force and was advertised as "Patrolman Frank Quinn" on some of his early records. His recording career began in May, 1921, and he seems to have ceased around 1936.

His recording of "Rafferty's" intersperses his lilting the melody with violin.
