RATHOLDRAN CASTLE. Irish, Reel. G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB’. Composed by Baltimore, Md., B/C box player Billy McComiskey, originally from Brooklyn, taught by Sean McGlynn. McComiskey composed the reel for his friend, Irish banjo-player Peter Fitzgerald, originally from Ireland near the site of Rathaldran Castle. The castle, long held by the Cusacks, is located near Navan, County Meath, and was originally a 15th century tower incorporated into a 19th century neo-medieval “castle”, or manor. It has been renovated and developed for the tourist trade.
