REEL DES ÉBOULEMENTS. AKA and see "Avalanche Reel," "Belle Catherinette (1) (La)," "Dad's Reel," "Presto (2)," "Reel du Faubourg (2),' 'Reel des éboulements," "Reel du printemps." French-Canadian, Reel. A Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABBCC. Eboulements is a French word meaning a ‘scree', ‘rock fall’ or 'avalanche', although the name also refers to a section of Quebec Province in the Charlevoix region of the St. Lawrence river, east of Quebec City and near the town of Baie St-Paul. The melody was recorded under the 'Éboulements' title by fiddler Jos Bouchard (1905-1979) in 1938, however, it had earlier been recorded by Montreal fiddler J.O. LaMadeleine as "La Belle Des États (Set Américain 1Ére Partie)" {"Set American, First Part"}[1]. Philippe Bruneau and Graham Townsend both recorded the tune in the 1970's as "Belle Catherinette (1) (La)."

The first appearance of a Quebec version of the tune in print is under the title "Presto (2)" in J.A. Boucher's rare printed collection Le Répertoire du Violoneux (1933, No. 112). All Quebec versions of the melody are derived from Scottish fiddler-composer Robert Mackintosh's reel "Sheep Shanks."
