REEL DES ESQUIMAUX [2] (Eskimos’ Reel). AKA - "Reel du Highway." French-Canadian, Reel. G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB (Songer): AA’BB’ (Hart & Sandall). The tune was first recorded by fiddler Isidore Soucy in 1939 (as "Reel des eskimos"), in a 'crooked' version (i.e. having irregular strains), that was subsequently 'straightened' for contra and square dancing. Soucy recorded it on 78 RPM in 1939, and later recorded it with La Famille Soucy as "Reel du Highway" (1954).
