REEL DES PILOTES (Pilots' Reel). French-Canadian, Reel (2/4 time). B Flat Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. "Reel des pilotes" was recorded by J.A. Boucher and by Montreal fiddler Jean Carrignan. Researcher Jean Duval finds that Boucher's 1933 volume was preceded by an unpublished 1927 version of the collection, in which "Reel des pilotes" was originally entitled "Les Bois francs". However, Boucher must have reconsidered, for in the 1933 volume "Bois francs (Les)" is attached to a different tune (No. 106), and "Reel des pilotes" substituted for the present reel.
