REEL DES SKIEURS (Skiers' Reel). AKA and see "Quadrille indien," "Reel indien (1)." French-Canadian, Reel. G Major ('A' part) & C Major ('B' part). Standard tuning (fiddle). AA'BB'. The Lydian-mode tune was recorded twice by Montreal fiddler Joseph Allard (1873-1947); first in 1928 for Victor records as "Quadrille indien," and again, in 1945, for Victor's subsidiary label, Bluebird records, as "Reel des Skieurs." Jean Carignan's title for the tune was "Reel indien (1)" on his recording. Jean Duval remarks that Allard grew up in Châteauguay, very close to the Kahnawake Native American reserve, and suggests a possible association with his tune. He also notes that his guitar accompanist was a native of Kahnawake.
