REEL DES VIEUX, LE (Reel of the Old Ones). French-Canadian, Reel (cut time). D Major. ADae tuning (fiddle). AA'B: AABBB'. A tune in grondeuse tuning, or ADae on the fiddle. The second strain is 'crooked' i.e. having irregular measures. in the ‘B’ part.

Source for notated version: Lisa Ornstein, who had the tune from a 1955 field recording by Mont-Louis, Gaspé, fiddler Firmin Francoeur (born c. 1913) [Remon & Bouchard]; from the repertoire of Firmin Francoeur (b. circa 1913) via La Bottine souriante fiddler Martin Racine [Hart & Sandall]. Francoeur was a musician from Mont-Louis, Gaspésie, recorded in the field by Germain Lemieux in 1955.
