RENFREWSHIRE MILITIA, THE. Scottish, Pipe March (2/4 time). A Mixolydian. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB'CC. A pipe march by Pipe Major John MacKay. Renfrew has been absorbed into greater Glasgow. It was an ancient Celtic site upon which David I built a castle in 1130’s. See also the related title (but different tune) “March of the Renfrew Shire Militia.” The Renfrewshire Militia dates to 1793 when they were embodied as the Royal Renfrew Militia. Later the unit saw action in the Boer War, and were a reserve battalion in the First World War.
