RIVER JOHN SUNSET WALTZ. Canadian, Waltz. Canada, Prince Edward Island. D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. Composed by Truro, Nova Scotia, musician Florence Killen who named for her home community, the tune was popularized by New Brunswick fiddler Ivan Hicks. Central New York fiddler Chad Miller reports that the tune has become somewhat of a ‘standard’ in his region, learned from visiting Canadian fiddlers.
