ROAD TO OREGON. American, Reel. G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). The tune is to be found in the music manuscripts of the famous painter William Sydney Mount (1807-1868), from Setauket, Long Island, who was also a fiddler of some skill and local renown. He obtained tunes from his fiddling acquaintances, including ballroom dances, Scottish country dance tunes, and miscellaneous dance tunes. This one, with the note “From Rickardson”, seems to be of local origin as Rickardson was the name of a Long Island dancing master.
