ROSE NELL. Old-Time, Air. G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). One part. One of the first tunes source Hensley played on the fiddle. There is a 19th century song called “I’d Rather be with Rosy Nell,” but what relationship this tune may have with it, if any, is unknown—musically they are dissimilar. Source for notated version: Violet Hensley (b. 1916, Montgomery County, Arkansas), learned from her father, George Washington “Wash” Brumley when she was age 12 in 1928 [Beisswenger & McCann].
