ROUND ABOUT THE FIRESIDE. Irish, Reel (cut time). D Major (Donnellan): C Major (O'Connor). Standard tuning (fiddle). AB. "Round about the Fireside" was contained in the large ms. collection in the possession of Rev. Luke Donnellan (1878-1952), a priest and fiddler from South Armagh. The key signature in the ms. is two sharps, but Gerry O'Connor removed the accidentals in his edited version, placing the same music in the key of 'C'.

  1. Gerry O'Connor believes the ms. was not original with Donnellan, but rather was the work of an unknown but able fiddler who worked on it over the course of a playing lifetime, probably in the late 19th century. It later came into the possession of Donnellan.
