RUNNING MORRIS, THE. English, Country Dance Tune (6/8 time). A Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB. The melody appears in London publisher John Walsh’s third collection of Lancashire tunes (Third Book of the Most Celebrated Jiggs, Lancashire Hornpipes, Scotch and Highland Lilts, Northern Frisks, Morris's and Cheshire Rounds) published around the year 1731. There are two other melodies in the Walsh volume with 'morris' in their title, "Carpenter's Morris" and "New Wild Morris." He also printed "Welsh Morris (The)" in his third volume of country dances (1735, p. 103).
