SAIL AWAY LADIES [5]. American, Reel (cut time). USA, southwest Virginia. G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB. This version is from Meadow Creek section (near Galax), Grayson County, Virginia, fiddler Luther Davis (1887-1986). His "Sail away Ladies [5]," like "Sail away Ladies (4)," is similar in some aspects to the "Sail away Ladies" tunes that are more demonstrably members of the "Sally Ann (1)" tune family and shares general melodic contour and rhythmic and harmonic similarities, but the melody itself is different.
