SAILOR'S DANCE [1], THE. English, Air (2/2 time). B Flat Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB'. The tune was composed by English composer Henry Purcell [1] (1659-1695) for his opera Dido and Aeneas (1689, Act III). Emmerson (1971) believes the tune is very suggestive of the common-time 'modern' hornpipe rhythm.
