SAND MOUNTAIN DRAG. American, Country Rag (2/4 or cut time). C Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). The tune was recorded by Dilly & His Dill Pickles in Atlanta in March, 1930, for the Brunswick record company (released on their subsidiary label, Vocalion). The group consisted of Atlanta fireman, guitarist and singer John Dilleshaw (1896-1941), with a young Harry Kiker (fiddle), Shorty Lindsey (tenor banjo) and Pink Lindsey (bass). Sand Mountain is a long sandstone plateau that extends for miles through northern Alabama and Georgia, and into southeastern Tennessee. It is part of the southern tip of the Appalachian mountain range.
