SANDY McGREGOR'S. American, Quickstep (2/4 time). A Dorian. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. A close variant of the Scottish tune "Waulkin' o' the Fauld (The)." The tune appears in minstrel Dan Emmett’s Fife Instructor (p. 59), named in honor of his old fife instructor, one Sandie McGregor. Emmett was stationed at Newport Barracks, Kentucky, after joining the army as a teenager in 1834, where he came into contact with McGregor (Hans Nathan, Dan Emmett and Negro Minstrelsy, Univ. of Oklahoma Press, 1962, p. 108).
