SANDY IS MY ONLY LOVE (Alastair m' annsachd). Scottish, Slow Air (3/4 time). F Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AAB. The air was first printed in Rev. Patrick MacDonald's Highland Vocal Airs (1784), where he identifies it as an Isle of Skye air. MacDonald was minister of Kilmore in Argyleshire, and collected melodies from throughout the Highlands and the Western Isles. "This is one of the editor's family stock, as sung by the original compiler, to which it is so difficult to attach incident; but the melody is often fine where the individuals may be obscure, a circumstance which, for the most part, simplifies both the style and the sentiments" (Fraser).
