SCOTCH REEL [7], A. AKA and see "Aldridge's Rant," "Highland Reel (1) (A)," "Humors of Ballyconnell (1) (The)," "Lustian's Reel, "Now is the Time." Scottish(?), Reel (whole time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABBCC. This untitled reel is contained in the 1760's music manuscript collection of Cumbrian musician Joseph Barnes. John Offord edited the tune to begin on the first 'd' note. The melody was printed in the 18th century by London publishers Charles and Samuel Thompson as "Aldridge's Rant," and, in Glasgow, by James Aird as "Highland Reel (1) (A)." Fairly close versions of the tune appear in Elias Howe's Musician's Omnibus Nos. 6 & 7 (Boston, 1882-1883) under the title "Lustian's Reel," and in Coes Album of Jigs and Reels (1876) as "Now is the Time." See note for "annotation:Humors of Ballyconnell (1) (The)" for more.
