SCOTTISH SNAP, THE. Scottish, Strathspey. Composed in 1933 by Aberdeenshire fiddler and composer J. Murdoch Henderson (1902-1972), dedicated to R.E. Cahill, manager of The Playhouse, Aberdeen. ‘Scottish snap’ refers to the characteristic manner of ornamenting a melody, roughly substituting a whole note for a sixteenth followed by a dotted eighth note on important beats.
