SCOTTISH SOCIETY OF LONDON, THE. Scottish, Pipe Quickstep (6/8 time). A Mixolydian. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB'. The tune was composed by John MacBeth, Piper to the Highland Society of London. The Scottish Society of London, different from the more political Highland Society of London but encompassing members from all the Highland societies, was formed 1846 to provide an avenue for practicing and competing in the national games and pastimes, especially archery. Piper MacBeth gained third prize as Piper in 1832, and first prize for dress in 1829.
