The country dance "The Sham Squire" was first published in John Walsh's Third Book of the Compleat Country Dancing Master (editions of 1735 and 1749) and in London publisher John Johnson's 'Wright's Compleat Collection of Celebrated Country Dances (1740), a reprint from the plates of the earlier London music publisher Daniel Wright.
