SHORES OF AMERIKAY, THE. AKA and see "Star of the County Down." Irish, Scottish; Slow Air (4/4 time). A Minor. Standard tuning (fiddle). ABB. A 19th century Irish ballad (in 6/8 meter) by this title begins:

I'm bidding farewell to the land of my youth and the home I love so well,
And the mountains so grand in my own native land I am bidding them all farewell;
With an achin' heart I'll bid them adieu, for tomorrow I'll sail far away,
O'er the raging foam to seek a home on the shores of Amerikay.[1]
