SHORT GRASS (THE) (An feur gearr). AKA and see "Put on Your Clothes," "Put on Your Coat." Irish, Double Jig (6/8 time). C Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AAB (O'Neill/1915}): AABB (Cole, Kerr): AABB' (O'Neill/1850, 1001 & Krassen). The tune appears in R.M. Levey's first collection of Irish dance music (1858) as an untitled jig (No. 87), and O'Neill's setting is very close to it. Elias Howe's c. 1864 printing is also quite close, and his publication introduce's the title "Short Grass" for the jig. A few bars of this tune are reminiscent of Breathnach’s “Old John's Jig,” while “Gap in the Woods (The)” also appears to be a related melody.
