Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. It is interesting to compare the two Northumbrian versions of the tune that existed about 75 years apart. Henry Atkinson's version, apparently in a minor mode (there are sometimes mistakes and missing details in his manuscript entries), is clear related to William Vickers' major mode version, particularly in the first strain (the second strains are less similar but generally related).
London music publisher Henry Playford printed it (with directions for a country dance) in his Dancing Master, 11th edition at the very beginning of the 18th century.
