SIGEL'S RETREAT. American. USA, Arkansas. The title appears in a list of traditional Ozarks Mountains fiddle tunes compiled by musicologist/folklorist Vance Randolph, published in 1954. There was a Civil War general on the Union side named Franz Sigel who began his career early in the war in Missouri.
